Coffin nails can enhance the power of magical rites when used in place of traditional inscribing nails or pins. They can be utilized to secure the corners of a home to prevent unwanted departures, or to create War Water for protection against negative energies and harm. The nails are commonly incorporated into spells of the dark arts, malevolence, jinxing, and hexing.
